Hashtag Goals

With the season in full swing many of the players and coaches are beginning to work toward the different goals that they set out before the season began. As you transition from year to year new goals and expectations typically abound not only from fans but from the team itself. Players usually set out different individualistic goals then the ones they had the previous year before, or they may he increase the goals set the year before. When it comes to coach the goals they typically set are more team or group based rather then individual. While coaches clearly desire to succeed and do set some type of individual goals, those goals do not out weigh the goal for the entire coaching staff or team as a whole. If at any time individual goals out weigh the ones set for the team, then a true issue normally ensues. The problem enlies that because the approach is now self or I over them or team. Ultimately meaning that what I do or want as an individual is more important than the direction the team is working hard to get too. Looking at this team this year however, you would see that there is no individual approach. The 15 guys on the team are truly starting to come together as a team. Whether you are a starter, a role player or one who doesn’t get much playing time at all everyone appears on board to fight for one another. With guys on the bench up in excitement when big time plays are made, is a beautiful site to see. Simply because that site was that wasn’t noticed a lot over the past few years. I would obviously, be remissed if didn’t mention the fact that winning has a lot to do with that. However, when the other 14 guys on your team are truly your brothers it shows.

When talking to some of the players on this year’s team many of them mentioned the some of the same things when it came to the goals for the year. The biggest goal of them all, was win. At some point you get tired of losing, and the attitude and approach of many of the guys on the team is to win and re-write history doing so. Additionally, many wanted to improve their game in every asset not just on the court but off the court as well. Many wanted to become better men, better leaders, and better in outreaching to the community. In my conversation with the team’s character coach, he expressed his excitement for the direction in which this team is headed. Helping to grow and develop the character of each of these young men has been an exciting process for Jared Green. Exciting, simply because starting to see a few of the players specifically Otis Livingston grow as a true leader. With the mindset, approach and goals set that this team and these players had made, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they will be extremely successful for years to come.
